Cronkley Fell (6.5 miles)
Sunday 17th April
The walk is organized by Middleton-in-Teesdale Walkers Are Welcome. It will be guided by a walk leader and will go at a pace that accommodates all participants.The route crosses the Tees and rises up steadily up the heather slopes from the Green Trod to reach the top of the fell. Having crossed this we shall then descend the northern slope to the valley below, with wonderful views across to Cross Fell from the upper slopes and then of the Tees with falcon Clints as one descends. The walk concludes with an attractive stretch alongside the Tees. Lunch stop en-route.
Meet at the fountain, Middleton at 9.45 or at Hanging Shaw car park (NY 867298) for 10.00 am. start. This walk is free to attend but voluntary contributions of £1 are welcome on the day.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept unaccompanied under 18s or dogs on this walk.

Parking
Hanging Shaw car park (NY 867298) for 10.00 am. start.
Difficulty
The walk is on public footpaths throughout. There is a steady, but not too strenuous climb up onto the fell. The final section along the river is over rough stone at times . Sturdy comfortable waterproof walking boots are therefore essential & some walkers may want walking poles. We would expect the walk to take approximately 3.5 hours
Who can take part?
If you think the walk is suitable for you, then you are welcome to take part! There is no membership, or commitment to come on future walks, and no need to register in advance, just turn up on the day. However if you are intending to take part it is a good idea to let us know by e-mail us with a contact number in advance in case weather conditions force us to change plans. The walk is free, however, voluntary donations of £1.00 are welcomed to help cover our insurance costs and other overheads.
The suggested minimum age for participants is 11 for this walk, but all under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Unfortunately we are unable to accept unaccompanied children or dogs.
What to bring
Make sure that you have waterproofs, walking boots, some food and plenty of water.. Some walkers may wish to bring walking poles.
